Sinister Dread FAQSAt Sinister Boutique we stock our own brand of dreads called Sinister Dreads. They are double ended dreads (the twist version), made out of 100% kanekalon and come in three styles: plain, twist and transitional. Synthetic Dread Extensions are pre-made lightweight dreads made from 100% Kanekalon synthetic hair and measure approx 20". Choosing your Dreads and Installing them!Your hair needs to be at least 4" long for the dreads to be held in well enough. For a full head, you will need 60 Sinister Double Ended Dreads (6 packets). You can have a friend install them for you, but be sure to do some research first, You Tube ca be a great source. Or, even better, check out our Dread Installation Directory to find someone who offers this service! What should I expect after having my dreads installed? Some people experience an itchy scalp, a mild rash and headaches within the first week. This is perfectly normal as your scalp is adjusting to the weight of your new dreads. If these symptoms last longer than a week, there may be the possibility that you are allergic to the synthetic fibre ... in this instance it is best to remove the dreads and consult a doctor. When the dreads are installed the installation process can cause the dreads to fluff up and unravel slightly on the ends due to them being pulled through the rubber bands. The dreads will also naturally unravel and fluff up over time. If you prefer the neater look you can trim the fluffy bits and roll the ends of the dreads through a hair straightener but be sure to test your dread ends first to ensure the heat is not to hot for your dreads. Synthetic Dreads are temporary and last up to 3 months in your hair, it is recommended not to exceed 3 months as your natural hair begins to dread at the root. Why does the fibre vary? All of our dreads are made of 100% kk kanekalon. But we do find there are variations in the fibre from batch to batch and from colour to colour and some can be twisted in different directions. So please note that on choosing your dreads they are not going to all uniform.Do you reseal used synthetic dreads?Yes. We charge $1 per dread to reseal. Dreads must be washed and dried before we reseal.
